Careers

Careers education at Penkridge Middle School is a key part of the curriculum for Key Stage 3 students, aiming to inspire ambition and help pupils explore future career pathways. The school follows the Gatsby Benchmarks, ensuring a high-quality careers programme that includes learning from labour market information, encounters with employers, and personal guidance. Through PSHE lessons and the use of the ‘Start’ careers platform, students develop self-awareness, research skills, and employability competencies. The programme also supports inclusion, challenges stereotypes, and encourages students to take an active role in shaping their futures.

Penkridge Middle School follows the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Careers Hub: Careers Education Curriculum, a structured framework designed to embed high-quality careers education across all key stages. This Careers Education Curriculum ensures that students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make informed decisions about their future, supporting progression into further education, training, and employment. It aligns with national best practice, including the Gatsby Benchmarks, Future Skills Questionnaire, and the Employer Competency Framework for Skills, while remaining adaptable to individual school and student needs.
